Reducing food waste with resealable packaging

The environment has been a prevalent topic this year, prompting supermarkets and manufacturers to commit to reducing waste within the next few years.

Many companies have signed up to the Courtauld Commitment 2025, a voluntary agreement making food and drink production and consumption more sustainable.

Food production and food waste is one of the leading contributors of climate change. One third of all human-caused greenhouse gas emissions comes from food waste.

Not only does disposed food waste produce extensive amounts of greenhouse gasses, resources needed for production are also wasted. Nearly a quarter of our water supply is lost to the production of uneaten food.

In the UK alone, households are responsible for wasting 7.1 million tonnes of food a year, with fruit and vegetables having the highest wastage rates. Research suggests household waste is caused by preparing too much food and not being able to finish products before they go off.
